Why I built BirdChess.
I'm Ben Sigman. As a kid I learned chess from books — Bruce Pandolfini and the other greats. I didn't know chess tutors existed. As a teenager I'd sometimes play in Washington Square Park, and those players were an education of their own: they knew every mistake you were going to make, and exactly how to exploit it. When you go wrong in the first five moves, it can feel crushing — and there was nothing that taught you those five moves the way the park players knew them.
Years later I went looking for a way to play openings repeatedly — to be trained and tested on them, both sides, until the right move is automatic. There was no really good resource. So I built one. BirdChess is the tool I wanted: it knows the mistakes you're going to make, and instead of exploiting them, it teaches you them.
